Abstract

In this image processing tutorial, we show how to use scikit-image to solve some real world problems.

First, we give a brief overview of the basics (how are images stored, what are their data types and ranges, how do we load, display and save them, etc.)

We then give a demonstration of some of the capabilities of the package, after which we dive into a couple of real world problems. Examples and hands-on problems include:

  • Counting the pools in your neighborhood using morphology
  • Combining scikit-image and scikit-learn for simple background detection
  • How to stitch a panorama
  • Gesture recognition using blob detection

We invite participants to submit their own image processing problems beforehand for discussion.
