Session: Can we publish Jupyter Notebooks as academic papers?

Target-audience:
Beginner

In fields ranging from geology to genomes to gravitational waves, scientists have published papers with accompanying notebooks, allowing readers to reproduce their data analysis. But to the best of our knowledge, no-one has yet published a notebook as a peer reviewed paper. I'll look at what technical pieces are needed to make this possible, which already exist, and what we still need to improve and add. This includes tools to cite other works within notebooks, and converting notebooks to formats that feed into publishing pipelines. I'll also talk about how notebooks could play a part in a more radical publishing model, outside the traditional journal system.
