This tutorial gives an introduction to the Python programming language. It is intended primarily for those with little or no previous familiarity with Python, though those with prior experience of the language might pick up some useful tips. We'll cover the basic data types, control structures, and reading and writing data from files. The tutorial will include some short exercises.

Participants are encouraged to download and install Enthought Canopy from https://store.enthought.com/ prior to the tutorial, though any Python environment that provides Python, IPython and NumPy may be used.
