How to build an open-sourced Data Science Company

Ian Ozsvald

Fri 23 11 a.m.–11:30 a.m. in Dupreel

Abstract

Ian has been building his AI Consultancy (Mor Consulting) for 9 years, between the UK, Europe and the USA. At previous EuroSciPys there has been interest in how someone starts their own Data Science company. Ian will describe the highs and lows of growing a consulting company, noting what needs to be prioritised, including private consulting through to building his current annotate.io NLP project which is being built as an open source and commercialised tool. Open Source as an approach has valuable benefits for both the wider community and the company owner and this author believes it should be considered strongly when building a new venture. This talk will be applicable to anyone who wishes to sell their time as a scientific developer or who is considering commercialising their side projects.
